Evaluation Q2
2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

For my front
cover it changed a lot through the making of it as my first final cover was completely
different to this, the image was different and the colours and mise en scene
was nothing like this. After feedback though, I realised there was too much
blank space and when I tried to fill it up it ruined the whole layout. I really
liked the image for this front cover but as it didn’t work as a front cover image
I eventually decided to use it a poster that would feature on my contents page.
After feedback of my new front cover I was told to add division lines to give
it more structure, make some of the text a bit bigger because it was difficult
to read and I also move the website link, issue/date line and price near to the
barcode so that the masthead individually stands out. I made all of these
changes and I then moved onto my contents page where I used the same style of
image as the front cover to link them together. The text used was the same as
the front cover too showing continuity and the image from my old front cover
was added in the bottom corner. After feedback I found out that people liked
the work I had done but to improve it I could make it clearer to what story my
main image belonged to and also I could add some more features in the
subheadings. I listened to all my feedback and added a page number to my main
image which linked to one of the subheadings and also included a pug with
buzzwords as well as social media logos for the digital natives to make my page
more conventional and to also add more contents which was mentioned on one of
my feedback comments. Then I created my double page spread, again continuing
with the same house style and images to link it all together. I was told in
feedback after my first draft that I could try to make the pages more
conventional so I added information about the photographer of the images and
also changed the colour of the structural line to make it match with the colour
of the images. If I was to create my pages again I would try to make them more
conventional and also for my double page spread I would use a image with a
white background so I can spread it across the two pages and connect them
through the image instead of through the use of colour.Friday, 8 March 2013
Evaluation Q1
1.In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Friday, 22 February 2013

This is my final double page spread. The images used relate back to the contents page and front cover and the grey shadowing on the masthead links to the masthead on the front cover, these features show continuity. On the left page i have added a graphical line to help structure the page, it is the same colour as the background of the images to link the two pages together. I have included page numbers with the masthead URBAN next to it to reinforce what magazine the readers are readers. I have included a drop cap making my double page spread conventional in relation to a real magazine aswell as columns and pull quotes highlighting what the celebrity being interviewed has said. Finally i have included information in the top left corner about the photographer and who the images are of along with what year they were taken and a copyright logo too.

Final Contents Page
My Final Contents page after changes due to feedback. I have added a page number for my main cover story, added free 'pug' section underneather fashion headlines to fill in some space and also to add to the usage of conventions. I made the subheadings bolder to make them a bit clearer for the reader and also include some social networking logos to show the digital natives that the URBAN magazine can be found digitally too. Finally i added another sub heading 'Extras' as i believed it looked better as it helped to even out the pages structure.

Peer Feedback (Contents)
Peer 1
Strengths - Number of pictures used makes it more intresting to look at. Colour scheme works well, can clearly see the text. Text is a good size & font is easy to read. The 'U' in the background is good because it reinforces the name of the magazine.
Areas for Improvement - It isnt clear what the big/main picture is about, no link to an article/no page number for it. Maybe needs a few more features, as it makes the magazine seem like theres hardly anything in it. The main image is confusing as theres nothing about her, so you dont know why she has cans in her hair.
Peer 2
Strengths - There are some good images that make it interesting. The colour scheme is good and makes the writing stands out. The numbers on images are good.
Areas for Improvement - The main image needs some information about it.
Peer 3
Strengths - Really good picture - Lots of information about the articles, but not too much -
Great contents page, you've followed the conventions and made it look great!
Areas for Improvement - Say something about the main image, we don't really know what it is linked to.

Final Contents Page (before feedback)
This is my final contents page. The image relates to the front cover to give connection between each page showing that these two images link together for a possible inside story. I have giving the masthead 'contents' an iconic style so that if this style is seen anywhere else it would be recognisable to my magazine. The font of the actual contents text listed remains the same throughout but just changes in size to seperate each section. I have included a page number along with the title of the magazine in the bottom right corner to reinforce what it is that the readers are reading and also for realism too. I have include images at the bottom in seperate boxes to show previews to pages that the magazine contains and the page numbers that illustrates the images shows a connection with the text listed. The main image, like mentioned above, relates to the front cover which shows the model in a white top and wearing dark make up with red lipstick as i mentioned in my plan that i would like to of used. It is an image taken in the same shoot as the front cover and details about the image such as: who it is, the photographer whose taken is and what is being worn by the subject is all mentioned in a small section in the top left of the page. Finally a graphic style U has been inserted into the background of the main image, just like in the bottom right where a title is shown with the page number, the edit gives identification of the magazine and URBAN would be assosiated to this if seen anywhere else.
