Final Front Cover

I have choosen this to be my final front cover as from recent feedback that i recieved i decided that my other idea was not as conventional as it could be and this one fits more with the aspects and conventions needed for a realistic front cover. Compared to when i posted it with my other mock ups I have edited the text, rearranging the formation and changed the sizes. I put devision lines in between each article/subheading section to give structure to my work and make it easier to read. I got rid of a few subheadings and also i have moved the date and issue line down next to the barcode so the masthead stood out more from the other text on the cover. Finally I added a footer which gives a preview of some inside features which includes information of a pug (free gift) to lure in the audience.
I have now tried a faded text effect that relates slightly to a text styled edit that I found during doing my research of original existing magazines.
After listening to feedback I have moved the text around but im not too sure if I prefer it this way or not.
This image is one of my front cover mock ups, I prefer this one the most out of the four I did so I made some changes to make it a bit better in my opinion and then I asked three of my peers to give me some feedback. Their opinions were:
"I like the symetrical layout looks professional but I could make it more definned.",
"Image is good but there is a bit too much blank space" and
"Good image, very clear and great reflection. The white text at the bottom is slightly difficult to read, but its still great". After recieving this feedback I plan to try and make the text clearer and also I may try out a few edits with the main image. I have tried to add more text to fill the spaces and from doing my research there was an effect used on an original front cover that I might try to incorporate into to mine to fill the space.

These are the four front cover mock up drafts that I submitted for feedback marking.

Here is my magazine plan that I think will me my final front cover layout along with the original main image - I have edited the main image so that there is two reflecting images. I edited the eyebrows, nose, eyes and lips on photoshot adding colour which appears as makeup. I have kept all the fonts the same just changing in size and colour. I have added a masthead and other conventions such as barcode with details, issue and date line, subheadings and main story headline to make my cover look as real as possible.

Here is a third plan I have created. The image is edited as shown in the post below and I have added more text than the over two previous plans using it to illustrate a masthead, subheadings, main story line, a date and issue line and price. Also I have added a barcode for realism. Main original image below.

This is my second front cover plan, just like the previous on I have added a masthead and other conventions such as barcode issue and details, an issue and date line, subheadings anda main story headlineto create realism amongst the cover For the main image I adjusted the saturation, brightness and contrast and neatend the models facial hair, head hair and removed any blemishes all on photoshop. Underneath is the original main image.
This is my first front cover plan - I edited the eyebrows, nose, eyes and lips on photoshot adding colour which appears as makeup on the main image. On the second image I have added some more text as I think it was needed because there was too much empty space.

These are the images I took to put on my double page spread in my magazine.

These are all the shots I took when focusing on images which are suitable for my contents page. The images include extreme long shots, long shots, mediums shots, medium long shots, close ups, and low and high angle shots. I took the images in front of a white screen and green screen which has various news/magazines stuck on to set the seen. I also used a fan on some shots to get a wind effect on the model.

Below is a video that was taken whilst the images were being shot.

Makeup ideas for front cover model - Dark, exaggerated eyes and red lipstick for a dramatic look is what I aim for my model to be like. The second to last image is of an egsisting image that has inspired me to dress my model for the front cover in a white top with a dark background and again it shows the dar red makeup i plan to use. I also plan to put tin cans in my models hair for the main image shoot as seen here in the last image, where i got my inspiration for this idea from.

These are two larger images of front covers I like that I posted earlier on my blog. On the first cover I like how artists have been listed down the side instead of having seperate subheadings and coverlines, this is something I am interested in doing on my magazine either on the front cover or contents page. On the second cover I think that the way all the words have been edited onto the image to make it look like they are a part of her looks really effective and is something I may try to incorporate somewhere in my magazine.
This is a mock up idea of an initial idea for my front cover using an image of an artist that fits my genre off the internet.

These images all share features of the style I wish to use for my magazine. They appear colourful due to the heavy makeup worn by the artists and contrast between the background and the model. They consist of simple but yet very unusual poses most of which show a lot of emotion and by some using direct mode of address they connect with the audience. Others appear suttle and secretive and make you question what the image represents and the emotion that the model shares. Either of these techniques make the audience connect with what thye are seeing making them very effective. I want to combine these features to capture colourful and unusual styles of images but making sure they still have the ability for the audience to connect and understand how the image relates to the text they are reading. Similarily I want my images to appear with a unique edgy style, something different and unexpected. By combining the effects and conventions used in these images I think I will be able to do this.

ICT and Hand drawn Double page spread initial idea mock ups.
These are ideas that I have for my double page spreads. I have quite a few ideas that will be shortened down more when I take my images.

ICT and Hand drawn mock ups. These are my contents initial ideas. The top one which has been done on photoshop is the one that i prefer but my ideas could change once iIstart taking my photos because I might take a picture that I like but it doenst fit with these layouts.

ICT and hand drawn mock ups. Front Cover Initial idea. - From looking at various magazines these are ideas of how i could make my front cover. The Photoshop one at the top is the one i prefere the most but when I take my images the formality of the picture could change my mind on how I want the cover to be.

Here is the video of a focus group where i asked my peers what they would like to see inside a music magazine.

I really like these images, the contrasting colours make them really effective and this is the sort of effect I hope to get when taking my images.
